Geekadelphia

Geekadelphia

So my pal Tim and I launched a new project today, Geekadelphia. It’s been our baby for the past month or so, as we registered the domain, designed the template, filmed the first tour video, and spent hours talking on AIM about what we would be doing. Now it’s online, and we’re really happy with how it turned out.

Every Tuesday (Cubesday!) we’ll be featuring someone’s cubicle, so if any of you have a sweet lookin’ cube that you want to feature, please send over some photos! Expect more video tours, daily postings about gadgets, a frequently updated Geekadelphia Map, and more.

If you’ve yet to see the Geekadelphia Tour of Brave New Worlds Comics, please, go check it out! Tim and I worked pretty hard on that video. The sound isn’t so great, but you know what, it was our first try. Just turn up your speakers, and enjoy.

Lots of love to Alex, Lexie, Mark, Roz, and Scott for talking, twittering, and giving awesome advice while Tim and I got the site going.

Google Streets in Philadelphia

OMG My Apartment!

So Sara, my favorite craft maker, and Mark, the king of dating in Philadelphia, posted cool images from their respective apartments, and seriously, I couldn’t resist. It took me a while to find my place, since the addresses are a bit off, but I was pretty happy when I finally found my building. Maybe I’ll photoshop myself in the window later.

Now that Philadelphia is officially part of Google Streets, I’m excited to start finding some crazy images. Be it on a blog like Mashable’s Top 15 Google Street Sightings or on a full site like Google Street View Sightings, I’d love to see Philly representin’ with some truly wacky images.

For those of you who have Flickr, sign up for Bunny Lovers Unite. I’m in love with this group. I think I might adopt another bunny this weekend. Ash needs company, and nothing is more calming and heart warming then a new baby bun. Pictures of that adventure to follow.

Amtrak: Get On This

notleaving.jpg

Amtrak, please get to work on making this option available as soon as possible. Thanks. And yes, I know, you wish you had my level of Photoshop skills, especially my ability to make absolutely perfect circles in magenta.

Off to Albany to see the girlfriend. See you all next week.

Expect to see photography updates galore next week, including live photos of Bang Camero, Echo Screen, Maxeen, Racing Kites, The Mile After, and We Are The Fury, as well as press photos of Belafonte and Someday Never. And who knows, maybe some still photography from the secret music related website I’m launching later this year. *wink*

I know, it’s an insane concept, having updates on my website that have to do with my portfolio and photography.

Caught in a Bunderstorm of Web Traffic

bunderstorm.jpg

This past week, Cuteoverload, one of my favorite websites for all that is cute, featured one of my photos, a silly picture that I had taken of my girlfriend getting mauled by bunnies. It was a ferocious attack, rivaled only by the carnage seen in Night of the Lepus and delivered with the fury of the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog

This caused more traffic then my little blog / portfolio has ever seen. When the Silverstein video debuted on MTV, I saw a few dozen extra hits and some new search results hitting my site, mostly along the lines of “music video where dude steals diamond.” My stats went from 70 hits to 1,237. I’ve since gone back to my normal traffic. My internet fame was fun while it lasted.

This however, made me feel a little bad for my visitors, as all of them immediately hit up the photography section, hoping for some more cute animal photography. Alas, they were probably disappointed, seeing only indie-rock bands and tour photos. This made me decide to add a new category in my photography, which will be popping up in the coming weeks.

That being said, here’s a random photo of my bunny, Ash, sitting on my bed. Yes, he is the size of a small dog now. Seriously, compare him to the size of those black pillows. It’s ridiculous.
Be sure to check out the actual page on Cuteoverload. That’s my girlie. Read the comments, they are sure to make you laugh, as she certainly is “trapped in a bunderstorm.”

Life updates? I’m meeting with the artist who is designing my half sleeve tomorrow and, checking out the Eastern State Penitentiary for the first time. Should be a nice night full of fun photos and hopefully, an awesome looking sketch of my future ink.

I’ll be meeting with some of my friends in Houston Calls and Socratic for a top secret web project. Very exciting. If you don’t know either of those two bands, shame on you. Houston Calls toured Australia with Yellowcard last year, and Socratic just finished producing their new album with Mark Hoppus of Blink182 fame. The site is set to launch at the end of the year, and man, it is going to be one fun endeavor. Details to follow.

Also, everyone, please try some of the Halo III Edition Mountain Dew. It takes like you are drinking Starbursts out of a can. It is pure happiness.

Dunkin Donuts & MeMe Tag

dunkin.jpg

Man, I really wasn’t expecting Dunkin Donuts to pick up chubby Hitler as their new mascot. And offering munchkins 10 for 99 cents! Saw this in NYC this past weekend.

Edit: I’ve been informed by my pal Christina that this is a cartoon of the old Dunkin Donuts mascot Fred The Baker, portrayed by the actor Micheal Vale, who died in 2005. Awesome, nothing like getting served 99 cent munchkins by a cartoon zombie donut man.

So a couple of bloggers are playing a little game based on meme, a concept that Tim made me read about on Wikipedia, cause my brain to ache a little, but interesting never the less. My pal Mark over at The Poverty Jet Set and of Cheap Dates fame sent a tag my way, so it’s time to play along!

Rules:
1. We have to post these rules before we give you the facts.
2. Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
3. People who are tagged write their own blog post about their eight things and include these rules.
4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged and that they should read your blog.

Eight things about Eric, randomly selected:

1. The first album I ever purchased with my own money was 311’s self titled album. It was 1995. I was twelve. I still listen to that album and band, but now it’s on my iTunes, and not on a CD.
2. The first girl I ever kissed (I was 15) is now a lesbian. It wasn’t my fault.
3. It is impossible for me to watch When Harry Met Sally without bursting into tears when Billy Crystal comes running back to Meg Ryan on New Year’s Eve. It’s the best romantic comedy of all time, and if you disagree, I’d like to hear you name one that’s better.
4. I met my gorgeous girlfriend on a tour with a band called Foster. They were telling girls that I was the keyboard player. She loves me anyway.
5. I’m deathly afraid of airplanes and have never left the continent, although I’ve been to 48 states and seen most of Canada. My first international trip will be to the motherland… Ireland.
6. I have severe OCD when it comes to locking doors and things being in alphabetical order. I’ve been known to alphabetize DVD collections… at parties… for people I don’t even know.
7. I’ve moved three times since February. My first roommates were creepy and one slept on the living room floor on a bare mattress. My second roommate was awesome, but didn’t like me all that much for some reason. My current roommates are two amazing people and I’m glad I’ll be with them for an entire year.
8. I have a superpower. I can grow the sweetest mutton chops in the world in less then three weeks. I use that power for the good of mankind, and will also be using it all week, as I grow my beard out to celebrate the release of 300.

Ash The Famous Bun?

ashoncuteoverload.jpg

I go to the blog Cuteoverload.com just about everyday. Meg has made one of the most popular, and simply adorable, blogs on the web. She’s won a plethora of awards for the website and has added several words into my venacular, like “snorgle”

When I picked up Ash, I took several photos of his homecoming, and this one was one of my favorites. His little ears sticking out of the box the petstore gave him to me in, which happened to be an eBay mailing box.

Check out Ash on Cuteoverload.com. Paw printed autographs will be available upon request.

Thanks Meg!

Thinking Blog Awards

thinkingblogger.jpgMuch to my surprise, I was nominated for a Thinking Blog Award (thank you very much, Jessica @ Swedehart). Since I moved to Philadelphia and started blogging again, I’ve discovered a lot of fantastic writers whose verse draws me to their pages on a day to day basis. Not only do they have unique, powerful voices, but they often make me laugh, smile, and most importantly, think.

Treasure of Baghdad | inspires me to pay attention and not be an ignorant American.
Philebrity | is an amazing, often hysterical, Philadelphia based news blog.
Ultragrrrl | is written by the owner of Stolen Transmission Records.
Cute Overload | makes me remember that the world isn’t so terrible, so long as there are bunnies.
Chris K. Jennings | is a talented designer / entrepreneur, always coming up with brilliant ideas.

The Thinking Blog’s project is aimed at referring content, so including these links, as well as a link to the blogger award pages, will help generate content in programs like Technorati. Should be an interesting venture.
